Importance of Tajweed Al-Quran
The word “ Tajweed ” means proficiency. It means giving every
single letter of the Quran to its dues when it is recited. In this
article, we will learn the importance of Tajweed and the reasons
why we should recite the Quran with Tajweed.
1- The appearance of the angel Gabriel
The Quran was first revealed with Tajweed applied to it. When the
angel Gabriel recited the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad, he
recited it with Tajweed. Therefore, it is mandatory that we apply
those rules in order to recite the Quran in its original form.
2- The Quran is the words of Allah
Every letter of the Quran is from Allah, so Muslims should take
the Quran’s recitation seriously. The purpose of Tajweed is to
give the reciter proficiency pronouncing every letter with the
rules that apply to it. This way the reciter can recite the Quran
without changing the way of the Prophet who learned it from
Almighty Allah. Allah told us: “recite the Quran with measured
recitation.” (Quran 73:4).
3- The rules of Tajweed
Observing the rules of Tajweed in reciting protects the reciter
from making mistakes in reciting the Quran or change the words’
meaning during the recitation. Every Arabic letter has a pronunciation point from which it originates, called the Makhraj
and attributes called the Sifaat. The knowledge is an important
step to Learn Quran with Tajweed.
4- Tajweed will help to avoid mistakes
Applying the rules of Tajweed is important to avoid the major
mistakes in reciting the Quran. There are two types of errors: the
clear mistakes and the hidden mistakes. The clear mistakes are
usually plain errors and change the words’ meaning. Whilst the
hidden mistakes are not easily spotted. The majority of scholars
agree that the application of Tajweed rules to avoid clear
mistakes is an individual obligation (Fard ‘Ayn), while applying
Tajweed rules to avoid the hidden mistakes is a collective
obligation (Fard Kifaayah) upon Muslims.
